I bought this a week ago and it showed up today. I have connected it to my Windows Media Center PC and the picture on the TV is great, I can’t really tell the difference from when I had the cable hooked up directly to the TV. You can also hook up a computer monitor at the same time. The clarity of the desktop and web browser/links are better than I expected when viewed on the TV. A couple of things I learned when setting this up that you will want to be aware of (the manual is not the greatest): 1) Make sure the two “dip” switches are in the correct position, you will probably need them in the “down” position, not where they are out of the box, you can do this with the unit on - 2)If the TV screen is flickering or showing a 2nd “ghosting” image, try changing the display settings of the computer to some lower resolution, this should fix it. Keep in mind that if the screen of the TV is not fully utilized, changing the monitor resolution on the PC will affect this and should be able to fix it. For the money, this product works very well. This is a plug and play device, no computer drivers are needed.

flat panel television Significant Roadmap

I don’t like it because:
It’s uncomfortable to wear. I would go so far as to say it’s painful to wear.
The sound quality is poor; no stereo sound and it buzzes if there isn’t a clear line of sight to the base unit.
It’s expensive for the poor quality of sound and the uncomfortable (and painful) listening experience.
My recommendation:
Get a wireless radio frequency (RF) unit with stereo and ample padding for your ears (Sennheiser is a good brand).

I was excited to try my new TV Ears only to discover that only the right side worked. I tried all of the TV’s in my house in the off chance it was TV related only to discover the problem persisted. I jiggled the left arm and got intermitant sound. I was frustrated to say the least!!!! Fortunately, I paid an extra $11 for the extended warranty and figured I had nothing to loose rapping this junk against the wooden floor as appropriate. Not only did it relieve some frustration but surprisingly corrected the problem………….at least temporarily.
My advise, they work well when they work but the ear buds definately are uncomfortable. Don’t think you will do house work or anything else unless there is staight line, unimpeaded space between you and the transmitter. Yes, turning around is considered impeaded (they won’t work. Nice comcept but don’t buy them until 2nd or 3rd generation improvements are made.

For once, a pleasant surprise: A TV hyped product that makes good on the hype. These things are well thought out, sound good, and actually manage to look cool sitting next to your TIVO.

these were purchased for my dad who has lost alot of hearing. he uses them whenever he watches tv. he can enjoy it without blasting everone else out. this is a very good item for anyone who is loosing their hearing or wants to enjoy tv without disturbing others.

This review is about WD TV Live (featured on this page) and WD TV generation 2, which share the same firmware minus the network capabilities.
I bought this unit recently, after having bought WD TV generation 1 a few weeks ago. There was a significant improvement in user interface, plus the capability to copy/move files between media and to play DTS audio on a stereo or HDMI output (on WD TV gen1 DTS won’t decode, it only outputs it in digital mode through the optical output).
Besides occasional problems with audio synchro, the unit operates beautifully for high definition video. However, for standard definition video, which needs to be upscaled by the device to play on an HD TV, the picture quality is quite worse than the WD TV generation 1. The picture is grainier a with very noticeable artefacts. This is super annoying for me and a great disappointment for a device that otherwise would be ideal.
WD has not addressed the matter and has not replied to queries about it. I hope this is solved in future firmware upgrades, because the device is otherwise excellent.
I’ve seen this issue addressed in many user forums, there’s no clear explanation for the phenomenon, hopefully WD will address it.
Meanwhile, I’m returning my unit.

The intent with this device is obviously good, however, it needs more work.
You have to go through too many “hoops” to get at the file you want to watch, and everytime you turn the device on or off, you have to search for the network..very frustrating.
Simply not ready for primetime.
