If you are in the market for a great budget HDTV check this one out. At first what got me going was the price but the quality of the TV was the tipping point. I purchase this TV at the retail store because I want to compare the image with other TV sets like Samsung, Sony, LG, and others. So by comparing I was able to decide that for the money this was the best value quality ratio (at least for me) in my opinion this TV is very similar to those more expensive TV’s like Sony and Samsung which cost $100 to $250 more. The only thing I don’t like so much about this TV is the sound. To me it appear to be just “ok” I’m not one of those that need to have the best TV out there no matter the cost so I am really please with this one since it was cheap and the image is pretty great also the piano black finish looks awesome.

The previously reported audio issues are easily solved by simply installing a firmware update using a standard USB stick. Just google for “KDL-32S5100 firmware update” and go to the [...] site listed to download the update.

Just received this Sony model on this past Saturday (day after Black Friday). Has worked perfect and it came (purchased from Amazon) with latest firmware update from August 4th. I was prepared and even had it downloaded into mu USB flash card but didn’t need it. Image is pristine and looks terrific sending in 1080i from Directv and 1080p/24 Blu Ray from a PS3. Gaming also worked nicely. There are plenty of picture adjustments so tweaking to get the most optimal image will not be to hard. Sound was fine and with the latest firmware there has not been any buzzing. This 1080p HDTV for under 500.00 is a steal!

I purchased this TV for a bedroom. It was relatively easy to set up. The picture was just okay. My complaint seems to be echoed here by other reviewers. After about 20 minutes the sound quality was awful. To hear it a normal volume I had to turn up the sound to about 50. At lower levels (10-15) I could barely hear the sound and there was a lot of static and noise. Not happy about the quality of this TV.

I’ve always been a Sony fan, and this is our 4th set. Amazon had the lowest price, and the delivery was prompt and professional. Our TV arrived as promised, on schedule, undamaged. The wait was only a few days, and we saved over $200.

This TV is amazing for your kids or a sub-room. For your main room, maybe not. However, the quality is flawless, especially if youre using HDMI cables to view it.
Anyways to the main problem: The TV does require a firmware update. However, DO NOT BE SCARED. the only thing you need for the update is easy; a USB Port and 1 free program which takes 35-45 seconds to download from the website. Heres the link to the update:

Download this and put it on a USB port. The one bad thing is that the TV DOesnt read MOST USB ports, but keep trying different ones until it works. Once you update it, MOST problems will go away, ive had this TV for a while and never had a problem. I updated it and still have no problems. But as people know SONY always stands by their products.
Good luck to all buyers

So I was in the market for a 32 inch set for the bedroom and decided to go with 720P, since 1080P just isn’t necessary for this size. I looked at the Panny, LG, and the Sammy 460 series and this Toshiba’s had the deepest blacks out of the three. Blacks are more important to me being a Kuro owner. I’ve had this tv up and running now for 24 hours straight for over a week and no issues thus far. Very sharp picture with HD running through it. SD doesn’t look as sharp at all, but that is the case with any LCD. Good blacks(for an lcd). The screen is a matte, so you don’t get the reflections. Off viewing axis is better than most LCD’S, but being a plasma owner, it sucks in comparison. The color accuracy leaves something to be desired. Luckily the picture menu allows you to correct this. The sound is decent, although you will get vibration with certain dialog with the bass turned all the way up. Here are the settings I came up with for the best possible picture and fixing the color issue, which is a green push. This was done with a ISF calibration disc in a dark room. If you wish for a brighter picture for sports viewing or because you have the tv in a brighter setting, then bump up the backlight. Note: I will keep updating these settings until I feel they are perfect, so keep checking in from time to time.
UPDATED SETTINGS:
HDMI
MODE: PREFERENCE
CONTRAST: 70
BACKLIGHT: 60
DYNALIGHT: OFF
BRIGHTNESS: 56
COLOR: 45
TINT: 0
SHARPNESS: 4
ADVANCED PICTURE SETTINGS:
DYNAMIC CONTRAST: OFF
STATIC GAMMA: 0
COLOR TEMP: WARM
B DRIVE: 0
G DRIVE: -5
NOISE REDUCTION:
DNR: OFF
MPEG REDUCTION: OFF
THEATER SETTINGS:
PICTURE SIZE: NATIVE(HDMI)
CINEMA MODE: FILM
AUTO ASPECT RATIO: OFF
I gave it a four star only because of the speaker vibration during certain dialog and the major color adjustment it needed, but for the money, I could have easily given it a five star.
